Here is a lake full of lily pads. I figured it would be safer to take a photo than to put my boat on it and get the prop tangled up.

As suggested, I toned down the blue in the trees and lily pads.

QUOTED IMAGE

I really like this image...it inspired me to go out and take some long exposure infrared photos last week.

I shot the below scene long exposure as well, but I prefer the texture in the clouds in this one:

I was hoping to find an old barn next to a corn field so see what that would look like in IR but I was lucky to just find one barn, and I live in an agricultural area. They just don't leave them standing around anymore.

I hope this is a good place to ask this.

I have a 40D that is not being used but still takes great pictures.
Would you recommend an IR conversion in this camera?
Which filter? I was looking at www.lifepixel.com (external link). Their SuperColor IR filter seems the most versatile. Thoughts?
Are there focus issues after IR conversion? How to solve them?
In summary, is it worth while?
I need your encouragement... (or discouragement).
Thanks!
C

I think it is definitely worth it. I myself would not be interested in Super color, rather I'd recommend a true IR pass filter in the 720-750 range. as with most things, versatile often means major compromises.

If lifepixel appears to be a costly investment, I use Image Laboratory for a lot less $$;

Conversion is worth it, but maybe not that camera. You may not be happy with a 10mpx camera conversion especially considering most IR seems to be done in the landscape realm.
I went through lifepixel and got the standard IR. I'm happy with it. I convert everything to B&W, so tone is more important to me than colors rendered.
I can't comment on focusing issues, as i converted a mirrorless, but conversion does limit your lens selection. Some lenses create a bright area right in the center of the frame. Lens quality isn't the cause, it's some math thing with how some lenses are designed and built. I've seen a list someplace that shows affected lenses, but I can't remember where. I haven't taken my 11-22mm off since i got it.

I've always been a photographer, but I haven't always had a camera.

I find my 6MP D60 is lots of res for IR, it takes lots of work to get a proper photo since many lenses don't get along with IR photos and focusing is more difficult. I'm still learning.
