Covered my second game of the Vancouver Giants yesterday. Tried through the glass again (from the Zamboni pit this time) and I still don't like the image quality... the images come out so much softer even when shooting perpendicular to the glass. Should I just not worry about that?
Anyways, here are a few images I got that I thought were good. C&C welcome!! 1 ![]() 2 ![]() 3 ![]() 4 ![]() 5 ![]()

You have some nice action caught in these shots. Great timing on shots 2 and 5. As far as shooting through the glass, it does reduce image quality but offers an excellent point of view that is difficult to get anywhere else. Looking forward to seeing more!

I agree with the point of view, it's quite different and can offer some great action shots!!
Thank you!

i find it really difficult to shoot through the glass b/c the glass is always so scratched up and dirty! how did you manage to find a clean spot?!

all these shots were over the glass higher in the stands. I shot with a 300mm lens

Don't know if you're interested, but the photographer for the Seattle Thunderbirds has a blog he's been doing if you wanted to check his stuff out. Just thought I'd let you know since you're just a couple hours north!

Definitely some great action caught there. 3 is a little to cluttered for me and 4 doesn't do any for me either but I love the other 3.

very nice action but I think you are underexposed and have some WB issues to deal with. I'd bump exposure about 2/3 stop and use a grey card for a custom WB and I think you'll see that bright white ice that makes great hockey pics shine.

If you shoot low on the glass, just above the boards, that is usually cleaner than say eye level. Seems sticks and pucks don't get down there to make as many marks. Once you know how to process to compensate for glass issues (mainly contrast things) you will love that perspective. Here is a set of our Victoria Salmon Kings shot entirely through the glass. http://christianjstewart.zenfolio.com/p78268321 As you can see, IQ is rarely and issue and I have to think the arena where Giants play (Coloseium) has glass as clean as our rink?

yep and for the exposure, I usually get my exposure by spot metering the ice (skated on is best) then overexposing it 1-2 stops.

Freaking....awesome...
Well done! 1 and 5 are totally wicked. Being a goaltender, I'm quite bias. HA! Wicked stuff.

^^ Agreed. I know that face in number 1 though, hopefully the puck found its way into his glove and not the back of the net. Used to be a goalie as well lol.

wow, also a former keeper here! I suspect that was a back of the net moment given where his eyes are looking.

I'd suspect so too. lol. Always the worst feeling to look behind you and see that puck sitting across the line. Could have sworn you had it but your glove was off by an inch.
