Returned my SX130 IS today
I bought a Canon SX130 IS yesterday on Black Friday. I used this camera all day Friday and Saturday and was left disappointed. I returned it to the store where I bought it from for a refund. Here's why I didn't like it:
1.) EXTREMELY poor battery life. I initially used the Panasonic Alkaline AA's that came with the camera. They literally died after 15 minutes. I knew the camera had poor battery life, but I was astonished to find out exactly how poor it was. I put in some NiMh 2700MiAp rechargeables in and I was ok. I knew sooner or later I'd be stuck somewhere with a dead camera.
2.) Poor ergonomics/handling. I was torn between getting a tiny pocket camera (the SD1400) or this larger one. I opted to bite the bullet and get the larger body because of the increased zoom. The camera felt cheap and plasticky and slipped around in my hands easily. It just felt like I couldn't get a good grip on the camera.
3.) The IS on this camera sucks.
4.) The IQ on this camera sucks. There was zero wow-factor here for me. I've seen photos from other point and shoot camera and sometimes, quite frankly, I'm amazed. Not a single photo from this camera dazzled me. Anything above ISO 400 was sub-par.
5.) The lens is slow. The maximum aperture for this camera is f/3.4 That's slow in my book. The smaller SD1400 has a max. aperture of f/2.8
5.) The zoom motor is unacceptably noisey. This noise is recorded when shooting video. Also, the zoom motor is way too slow. It zooms at a snails pace.
6.) The rear LCD is lousy. It's large and certainly bright enough, but the IQ is horrible.
All of this is quite acceptable for a sub-200 dollar camera, I'm sure. But as a user of three 1-D series bodies and numerous L lenses the quality of this camera is too unacceptable to bare. I'm just looking for something to carry along with me when I go out or to keep in the car. I surely do not carry my expensive DSLR's with me where ever I go.
It seems the only two point and shoot cameras from Canon that would fit my bill are the S95 or one of the G-Series cameras. Looks like I'll be saving up $$$ a little longer for one of those.

Re: Returned my SX130 IS today
Sounds like the DSLRs spoiled u Me 2!
We had a similar experience and no, I only have a Rebel XSi but can't stand various p&s cameras for the multitude of reasons u mention.
My friends have had mixed luck with SX10 and SX20 and have heard good things about the G series. No clue about the S95, will have to read up on it as it sounds to be promising.
You are correct, carrying a DSLR everywhere does feel very touristy...
Thanks for sharing your experience
