I was there when Phil started it, which is how I knew about it. I think my contribution was "OOC" - out of camera. For some reason it has been locked (which makes no sense to me, since by it's very nature, it is a "living" database - with new abbreviations coming into being all the time. In fact, you have a couple listed that aren't on the thread.

So, because it is locked, it falls to the back pages, and even I had a hard time finding it in spite of knowing exactly what I was searching for.

Maybe some Mod will see your post and exercise their discretionary wisdom and unlock the original thread.

But, in any event, glad to be of service.

BTS=Behind the Scenes. Some people will post their scene setup for reference. I've learned a lot from people posting their BTS shots.

For MFA, you are very possibly seeing a reference to a Master of Fine Arts degree.

As a side note, I saw a humorous alternative to the BTS "most likely" translation, and that is "Back To Sleep", as a texting/chatting acronym like "BRB" ("Be Right Back"). But Kevin's "Behind The Scenes" is more photography-related! Of course, it's a bit obscure -- if you see someone using "BTS" just ask them if they are waking up soon and see how they respond!

SLR - Single lens reflex; implies that the camera uses a mirror and prism to allow you to look through the lens you're also shooting through. dSLR implies digital, and HDSLR is a new term for dSLRs with 1080p movie recording.

APS-C / APS-H - Advanced Photo System type-C/H; "Classic" and "High definition" respectively. These were film sizes that modern sensors are roughly equivalent to in size.

RAW - not really an abbreviation, RAW is raw like uncooked meat. It's typed out with a capital R or just in caps so that you know you're talking about the image format, not just an unprocessed file which can also be jpeg of tif.

Additions:
L - Luxury
EF - Electronic focus
AF - Autofocus
RF - Rangefinder
P&S or PnS - Point and shoot
MFT - Micro Four-thirds: a type of camera sensor.
MTF - Modulation Transfer Function: Characteristic which defines how much resolution a lens can resolve.
OS - Optical Stabilization (Sigma lenses)
DPI - Dots per inch (photo resolution on paper)
PPI - Pixels per inch (resolution of your computer screen)
Chimp - Check image preview

Clarification:
B+W - Brand of filters made by Schneider optics.
B&W - Black and White
CC - Color Correction
C&C Criticize and comment

Color spaces:
RGB - Red/Green/Blue: Colors used by digital electronics to capture and display visual data.
CMYK- Cyan/Magenta/Yellow/Black: Colors used by printers and presses to reproduce images on physical media.
HSB - Hue/Saturation/Brightness: Default color space used for color pickers in image editors.
LAB - Lightness/A component/B component: Color space encompassing all possible colors and light.

APS-C and APS-H originally to camera formats (film size). Remember Kodak's Advanced Photo System?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Photo_System

For that matter, remember Kodak?

Anyway, the terms are occasionally used as rough comparisons to 1.6x or 1.3x cropped sensors on today's DSLR (digital single lens reflex) cameras. I don't like such comparisons becuase the aspect ratios (width/height) aren't the same.

I never realized that C and H actually stood for something, always just assumed the letters were arbitrarily assigned. Reading up I see there's an APS-P as well.

Come to think of it, I think I had a P&S back in the 90s that allowed you to select different APS formats.

One that gets asked every so often on here is what does EXIF stand for, Exchangeable Image File Format. Then there is also TIFF which most people understand that it is an image file that stands for Tagged Image File Format.
