Very nice; I just wish I could see the lighthouse a little clearer. Maybe you could post this shot a little bigger; I think you will get more comments.

Could we see the original, pre photomatix shot to see where you took it?

Thanks CameraBuff! I really like it too. Not to over the top, and reflects more closely to what I saw.

As far as feedback goes - it is a nice image of a powerfully evocative scene. Since you posted in the HDR section, I'll add my thoughts on that aspect.
This scene does not really contain a high dynamic range necessitating the use of Photomatix, etc. If you used Photomatix to crank up local contrast, I suppose that is one way to do it. Your posted image could easily be produced from the SOOC jpeg you posted, using Photoshop. I guess, from an HDR perspective, the question I have is why did you decide to use Photomatix? It's pretty clear that this image could not have succeeded as a multi-shot HDR exposure sequence, but the DR of the scene did not require multiple exposures, so you are good to go. Your SOOC exposure is underexposed, but with raw converters being much better at bringing out shadow detail while suppressing noise, you could really work that single exposure into a nice, contrasty image all within LR, or similar raw converter. Thanks Kirk! I did use Photomatix since I have it and enjoy using it, but you are correct about Lr. I did play with a copy of the same image and was able to get almost what I was looking for. I'm sure that if i kept going, I would have produced a very nice end result, but a quick lap through Photomatix and back into Lr for a few final tweaks was a quicker and more familiar route for me to take!

Interesting how the sea spray almost looks like Gray paint suspended over the rocks. would have loved to see more DR but pretty great for one frame.
