Aloha,

I am kinda new to this board, so hi all:)....

Well atm i am waiting for the canon g3 to come \o/, i though mr. mailmen would come yesterday but i quess he will come today ... (ehe i can't wait for it)

I just ordered cf 512MB with speed 4MB/s and hopefully that will arrive tommorow. So basically i am waiting.

I had a minolta dimage 2300 before but sold that one.

After reading a ton of websites i decided to order the canon g3. Over a few months (or weeks:)) i will buy a tele and widelens. I saw a lot of topics about it here so i will read the rest all (again) later on.

About the lenses, what i read so far it's not 'smart' to order the canon lenses if u want to use filters is that right? Also the telelens of canon is that 1,5x extra zoom or 2x ?

I was wondering if there's a tutorial about shooting picture with the canon g3 somewhere on inet ?

Oh well i post my first reaction on the camera later on when it will arrive, hopefully today:)...

Peace..

Aloha Speed!

Are you in the islands? Maui perhaps?

Welcome aboard!! Yeah, you gonna love the G3. Great camera.

Yeah, the canon lenses have not front thread. So....you cannot add a filter to it. Too bad...

I currently have the KNT-20 Telephoto lens. It's great! Soon, to get the wide angle lens. Just deciding on which brand to get now.

Mahalo!
G3guro.

Hi g3guro,

Thanks, i wish i was on the island

Well i didn't get the camera where i ordered it, the mailmen 'lost' it somewhere, doh. I waited long enough so i decided 2 buy it yesterday at a local store. Yesterday i made about 120 picture's and now i am installing the software. But because it did RAIN outside i couldn't make nice pictures 'yet'. But so far it seems like a very nice camera. It isn't so hard as i though, reading the manual did help a lot

I am so happy with the memory i bought, i can make pictures with less then a sec. delay and can shoot more then enough pictures.

Do u happen to know how much space the video with sound cost per seconde (in 320 mode) ?

speed,

WELCOME!!!! I can't wait for you G3 to arrive either, the joy and excitement that you will enjoy from the moment you open the box is unmatched. I think it is second to your birth. LOL

Well, there are a lot of useful topics and a challenge or two that you can enjoy and partake in.

To say this is the best G3 website on the internet is an understatement. There are many people on here that will help you and give feedback to you.

So in closing, I just want to say again, welcome, enjoy, learn and do plenty of shooting.

If there you don't see a topic covered here, just start a new topic, it is that easy. If no one responds to your topic just yell at us and we will promptly.

LOL

Big Warm Welcome Smile,

Hi speed,
welcome to the G3 family.
I still remember when my G3 arrival, I just sit in my office and start playing with it, work all throw aside.

This is a good one:

Aloha,

Thank u both for your big hug(gy) welcome:)

I like the g3 very much allready, i am playing with it for two days now, but it still rains here so no good pictures yet :)

Was wondering if someone is using infrared filters or other filters and can give advise what 2 buy (52mm or 58mm, brand ?), also i am thinking 2 buy a uv filter to protect the lens.

Over a few weeks i will decide what extra lenses i will buy. Maybe a extra flash later, can someone tell me when u 'really' need the extra external flash ?

The raw format (crw -canon raw format?) is kinda 'strange' and i am testing with it. Wondering if someone have a plug-in for photoshop 7, to direct import it ?

Oh well, as u can see i have to learn a lot and it's so much fun.

Till later.

speed,

Look at my G3 accessories list , you can see what we all have so far. Add your wish list if you like. When you are ready, be sure to join the photo challenge too. It is fun, not really a challenge, other than challenging yourself. No contest, no prizes.

Smile,

I think you will enjoy your selection of camera. Read through the manual and experiment to no end and try different stuff and different settings. You will find it is not all that difficult as you try more and varied things with it. There is so very much that a photographer can do with just a box camera that you will find that the "plain ol' base g3" has a wealth of capabilities. My 2 cents is just use the camera alone for a while and keep your eyes on the various boards like this section, the SHARE section and any number of other forums out there. You will see what others truly use vs just talk about and use as part of the gadget gathering. YOu will also get a sense of what you and your new digital tools can do without expensive gadgets that only rarely if ever get used. Gadgets are my weakness, but I like to approach it as a kind of minimalist quest and really focus on my perspective of photography which is the images being the important thing. Gadgets are only tools and tools are only useful if used.

Whatever works for you...enjoy.

Hi Digpic,

Thanks for your point of view.

I must say i though it would be hard with all the manual setting but instead it's real 'easy'.

Today i went to a nearby zoo (no sun yet but ok:)) and try to make pictures with auto/portrait/landscape and most of it with the manual settings (apeture and shutter speed with/without flash).

I will post some pictures taken later, first i have to convert them and also i will edit then a bit in photoshop. The optical zoom was pretty ok i could reach far enough over there. The sun did sometimes show itself and then the LCD was hard to see, but ok u can't have it all:) The 512MB (can take about 130 cdr pics.) was full so i had to go home :)

I was wondering why u can't shoot cdr in auto/portrait mode, maybe someone knows that ?

I am very happy with the g3, as mentioned i will post some picture later so u all can comment on them.
