Not quite sure really, Im not as familiar with the Nikon 51 point in real usage..

But i have used the predecessor to the system in the 1D4 and i loved it

hehe I think the 24mm f/1.4 is the way to go if you have the funds one of the sharpest lens around

From research it seems the 17-35 has issues with the AF-S motor going out. I would almost have to go to for new to get the 5 year warranty, just in case.

Found a 24/1.4 in LN- condition for the same price as the 17-35/2.8 new. Since I'm not in a hurry I think I will just wait for a deal I can't refuse.

haha... you know you want to

the Nikon offering is Solid... while Canon's offering seems a bit uncertain. the question is will you really gain much if you switch again?

I know I won't gain much if I buy the D800..so I might pass on it or wait for good deals if I can't resist it hehe

Sort of, the price of all the Nikon lenses have shot up since I last shopped for them.

Right now I'm leaning toward getting both the 16-35 and 24 since they are really for two different purposes. That would max me out for now. I'd have to deal with the telephoto side once the slush fund gets replenished.

That's the only thing. 36MP. Dunno if I would want that. The AF system seems on-par with the D4, at least according to what's on paper, so that's a good sign. I definitely don't need more than 4fps. It's a nice-to-have for me but not a must-have.

The one thing I know is if they put the 1D4 on the new 5D-whatever, then I'll actually be losing performance. So that's a serious consideration.

Yeah, if I switch, it'll be a well though out process. No sudden moves. I'll wait and see how things settle down. I am fine with my 5D2s...obviously. But if something will give me that extra edge, I'll obviously entertain it.
