Default Remote shutter release and back button focus

Should be a fairly straight-forward answer to this question...

If you use back-button focus, and wanted to use a remote shutter release, where the remote provides the half-press focus feature, does focus work with the half-press? Or does the back-button focus require focusing ahead of time?

You have to move the focusing back to the shutter.

Thanks!

Does back-button focus still work with the remote shutter release? i.e., can I use back-button focus first, and then ignore the half-press on the remote?

Yes

You can either prefocus with the back button, and the remotes half press will do nothing (except start metering and image stabilizing)
OR
You can set the focus back to half press (cfn 4.0 I think) and the camera will AF when you half press the remote
