It sometimes comes to the time of the year.. Some of the more remote regions are inaccessable via road during the wet season, June until October.. But flights into these provinces happen a couple of times per week.. If you haven't been to Luang Prabang, then you haven't been to Laos I love the northern remote areas, especially Luang Namtha province.. Mountainous, sceneic and sparsely populated.. Great for getting people pics as it's the most ethnically diverse province in Laos.. Check out Muang Sing near the Chinese border about 50 kilometres from Luang Namtha town.. Bokeo province is also nice but very remote.. If you really want isolation, Houaphan and Phongsali provinces in the north east on the Vietnamese border.. Plain of Jars in Xieng Kouang province if you're into local history, both recent and ancient.. In the south Pakse is a nice little city for a base.. Checkout Wat Phou in Champasak province.. An old Angkorian temple, like a mini Angkor Wat.. If you get a chance, get to Tadlo in Salavan province.. Small town with a guesthouse/restaurant by a huge waterfall.. You can stay in cabins near the waterfall.. Vientiane is a small city compared to Bangkok or Hanoi.. Not much happens here and is mostly quiet.. Great cafes and restaurants.. Over Phi Mai Lao (Lao New Year) in mid April the city "goes off".. Street parties and madness,, great fun though.. That Luang Festival in November is fun too.. Laos is developing rapidly.. Places which were difficult to get to five years ago are much easier now.. To add,,the Lao are some of the friendliest, hospitable people I have ever met..

Here in Bangkok (SE Asia for that matter) stunningly beautiful girls/women are so common and just everywhere (got to love genetics). Tonight I walked 3 blocks to get some street food and passed no less than 5 girls that looked as good or better than Angelina Jolie or any US actress you could name. I don't live too far from the Thai consulate.. Everytime I drive past all I see are long queues.. I often wonder what's going on!!

this thread needs a bump
This is Nam Tok in Laos. yogestee can chime in if I'm wrong, which is a good possibility. In Thai we have "Laab" and "Nam Tok." Laab is ground pork and Nam Tok is what you see above. When I went to Laos I said "Nam Tok" since some Thai words are the same or close to Laos. They looked at me funny so I tried "Laab"; they said they had it and brought this. Like a lot of SE Asian food, it hits you with multiple tastes all at once, sour, hot, minty and cool (the lettuce). So very yummy. |

It comes in many forms, depending on what meat is used.. Laap Sin Nua, beef Laap.. Laap Kai, chicken Laap. Laap Pa, fish Laap. Laap Mu, pork Laap.. Even Laap Kwai, water buffalo Laap. Laap Bpet is my favourite, duck Laap. Laap is called the "lucky food" in Laos, as it's eaten during festivals, wedding parties or family gatherings.. But I'll eat it any day of the week.. In Laos, the meat is more finely ground than in your pic.

Also, I actually took that shot in Laos. :P When I said "Nam Tok in Loas" I meant actually being in Laos. There is a decent restaurant across from the Thai consulate. That is where I bought it. Your words kai (chicken) and moo (pork) are the same here. Even "sabai dee mai" is the same. (maybe slightly different meaning) My fiancee say I will "have a problem" because I eat Nam Tok daily. |

I get down to Udon Thani a bit.. I often use my very poor Lao down there and I can be understood.. Noticed I used "Lao" and not "Laotian"?? The Lao don't like being called Laotian, in fact, some deem it as derogatory.

Sean- What is going on in that first shot? It looks like a WTF moment. I love the second shot, very clear and crisp. Nice choice to go b&w, it makes the letters and lines look really sharp.

lostpacket,
the first shot is just a sign to draw people into the store selling accessories.
