Default Columbia River Gorge & Crown Point Panorama

This was taken Saturday evening with a group that went there to catch the full moon rise in the East as the sun was setting in the West. Unfortunately the moon was too far south and by the time it got up over the hills it was about an hour after sunset. But I did take other pictures of the river while I was waiting. This is a 11 image panorama taken with my 1DMKII and 70-200 2.8L lens. I warmed up the colors just a bit and added a bit of saturation and sharpened.

Here is a link to the medium size version of this that is 2000 pixels wide and 334K in size.

And if you are really interested and have high speed, here is a larger version that is 5000 pixels wide (just under 50% of the original) and 1.8 meg file size.

For those that don't know the Columbia River, this spot is just west of Cascade locks and Bonniville Dam. If the river was at normal levels you would not be seeing all that sand on this side. The river is really low from the dry winter we had and the dams only letting water through to produce electricity. Hopefully this winter will make up for it and we'll get a good snow pack in the Cascades, Blues and Rockies or it's going to be worse next summer.

That large size image is awesome. The detail is great. Wonder what the full size image is like

Storeman, the full size looks... BIG. It's got some pretty good detail. I wish the air had been less hazy and some of the clouds that were west of this spot had been here rather than the thin layer of clouds. But the full size does show a lot more detail.

Thanks Storeman and Scott.

For those that haven't seen it, I did another version of this panorama that I posted in the Experimental area. It really wraps up the above horizontal image into a nice neat round object.

You can find it here: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...ad.php?t=99578

Mike,
This has to be one of the clearest images I've seen of Vista House. It appears to have been shot from the Women's Forum? I just scanned a painting my wife did of the same scene from the same place. This photo is excellent. And we love the Gorge, a unique place for sure.

Dave, yes, it was shot from there. I try to get up there when I can, it's not the distance but the traffic to get through Portland and back that makes it hard to run out there for sunsets and sunrises. I have a panorama shot of Crown Point that I took from the Washington side with my 100-400 lens. You can sure see how massive the cliff is that it sits on from across the river. And how small of an area as well when you consider the whole mountain side.

Here is that picture.

Thanks Dave for the comments.
