Would appreciate some CC for these photos. It was the first time I've done a maternity shoot. I felt like I didn't have any new or creative ideas.

I think #2 is the best.
The backlite and feeling is why it works. The others are just Belly.

I love that her "outie" bellybutton is showing so well in that first profile shot. I would not dismiss the shots as "just belly", that is a bit harsh. Ouch, but ok, we are all just offering opinions. I agree with EL PIC on shot #2, the backlight does add a nice feeling to that image. I'm never a fan of the heart/hand shot, but you paid good attention to the details on it. You made sure her weddings rings were not twisted the wrong way, and that her Tiffany heart bracelet was hanging such that it went along with the heart shaped fingers.
on the floor shot, I would have preferred to see the hand behind the hair was covered/hidden, but whatever. I love the arm placement following her curves, that is nice, and love the reflective floor. I see that a lot on white backgrounds, not typically on black. I like it! |

These are very nice. I too like #2 the best. Don't worry about not being original. That comes with time and experience. Like you, I'm working on copying the masters and developing my own style and originality along the way.
I'm sure the clients/friends loved the pictures and that's what matters.

This is some great CC! Thank you so much!
SueCassidy, thanks for noticing all the little things I did to try to make the picture great. I try to pay attention to detail as much as possible. Thanks too, for the tips on how to make them even better next time. Keep the CC coming! |

I'm no pro but I like to have the husband come around from behind mom and use his hands as to make the heart shape and get that shot too. Then, Have him move his hands above hers and they both make the heart shape on moms tummy. If you position the fingers just right you actually get three heart shapes from this pose. Makes for three nice heart shots. Just my two cents... Nice shots by the way. I love B&W...

fedexbicman, I'm having a hard time imagining how you can come up with three hearts with only two sets of hands... do you have an example you can post? I'd love to see it.
Thanks for the encouragement fedexbicman and cavalierlover101. |

I had a blue screen error just after I commented on this series... checking today, the comment doesn't exist, so somehow, that error erased it... computers...
At any rate, these are lovely! That second shot is beyond superb. Just stunning. Thanks for sharing!

number 2 is my favorite. I dont necessarily like the feathered framing that the outlining wall around the window makes but thats just me. To me it makes it look like a square framed vignetting which in this case draws some attention away from the subjects. You could have backed up and zoomed in to compress the background more to get rid of this. But again this is only my opinion. If you like it and they like it then you hit a home run with that one.

Wow, thank you!
Yes, I actually added the vignetting because I didn't like the way it looked w/o it. I know some don't like it, and I usually don't add it... but I gave it as an option to the customer along w/ the same photo w/o the vignette and she chose the vignetted one. Guess you never really know what they'll like. |

Yeah... that and... none of the "photogs" I've ever talked to, like the fingers making a heart shape on a preg belly... but that was one that my client chose and also one that all my non photog friends liked best too. Ü
