I have not shot much still life with D30, and one day I visited a friend of mine and as I saw the Kodak Retina IIIc camera he had, I wanted to capture some of the magic these old things have. The bottle to the right is from same year as the camera, and the fellow in that photo to the left owned both the camera and the (unopened) bottle. I don't know if the photo was taken with this camera, but it could have been.
Composition was difficult - I took several shots of varying object arrangements - but in the end you need only one. I really liked this one because it has depth and the composition is balanced, although not 'by the book'.

Really nice pic. This one caught my eye because I have my father's Retina IIIc - it was the first "real" camera I ever used (not counting the Brownie I fooled around with when I was little). I loved shooting with that Retina all through high school... mine has three lenses - a 35mm WA, the 50mm normal, and an 80mm tele... not a lot of range there! Interesting how the interchangable lens scheme works - since it's a leaf shutter camera the shutter is in between the front and back lens elements... the front elements are bayonet mounted and interchangable... the back elements remain fixed to the camera body. Amazing how quiet those old leaf shutter rangefinder cameras are - great for candid shots.
