All stages in Europe are make of very thin plain wood, where cellos and basses hit their endpins. The stage floor resonates with the instrument's sound and makes it wider and more powerful. Sadly, here in Finland hall stages are mostly hard finished parquett which does not allow direct holes. Often architects don't listen to those who actually use the house, but aim for good looks and durability. But a floor like in the photo is easy to rebuild after it has become too tortured, and a difference in sound is clear.
