Knussen and FRSO

Composer-Conductor Oliver Knussen conducted Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra in concert on the 16th of February, 2001. This photo is from a rehearsal a couple of days earlier. Mr. Knussen was extremely nice and professional and had very good eye for score detail and the whole session was really productive and fun. I naturally asked his permission to shoot (and I gave him some prints the next day - he was very pleased with them). As I found a moment when I had a longer pause in my part, I jumped off the chair, put down my bass and got a bit nearer to him, G1 attached to a tripod. It was hard to capture any feeling of movement and still keep it sharp, as I could not use the flash. So I chose a shutter speed of 1/25 which was a good compromise. This was one of the moments a good 100-400mm zoom lens and a D-30 would have been handy, but actually if you keep a low profile and prepare the gear before going in you can get very nice action shots in low light.
