Hello,

I've just joined here and thought I'd introduce myself and post a few of my motorsport photos.

I'm Dan, I'm a relatively young photographer (17) so I'm nowhere near as experienced as the vast majority of people on here!. I'm always up for some comments and critiscm.

I'm currently using a Canon EOS 450D along with a Tamron 70-300 (for all of my Motorsport shots, anyway). Ideally I'd like to move up a step in the Motorsport photography world in the near future with a new lens....any advice would be appreciated.

Anyway, here's a few of my shots from the last three or so years, sorry if they're in the wrong forum.

Some cracking shots in there, faves have to be 3,4,6 and 8. If you number each photo it will make it easier to critique

Thank you.

Good point regarding numbering the shots, I've just edited my post.

Thank you.

Panning does take quite a bit of practice but I think I'm getting there!.

I see you have the Canon 100-400mm L, how do you find it?.

I'm thinking about upgrading my lens in the near future and the 100-400 looks like a good option. Would I see an improvement in the quality of my photos or would I need to move up a step in terms of camera bodies first?.

I'm not sure how well that lens would work with the 450D?.

I'm mainly into automotive/motorsport photography but I do occasionally photograph animals.

I'd still keep my Tamron 70-300.

Cheers.

Nice work, welcome to the forum. I started shooting with that lens. Your 40D is a good camera but you will see a big difference between the Tamron and the Canon 100-400.

Hi Dan, welcome to the Forum.

I have to say that's a very impressive set of images for someone so young! I look forward to seeing you develop as you gain experience.

All the best,

Rhod

Welcome along! Some cracking shots! Seems like your getting some great results with your gear already..but a 100-400 would be a nice edition, especially if your going to be visiting some bigger tracks. At santapod i can easily shoot on my 70-200 ..at silverstone etc, the 400mm will give you some nice needed extra reach :) Im not much older than you so i know how hard it is to get decent gear when your young but if you can afford a 100-400 go for it! :P

Thanks for the feedback, advice and warm welcome chaps, much appreciated.

I think I'll aim for the 100-400mm next. Like you say mr.fish, it's hard to fund photography gear when you are young so I'm going to have to do some more saving!.

It will be worth it though.

Sure you'll be able to pick up a used one for a decent price..look at mpbphotographic . Pretty well priced gear and you get a warranty to I think :)
