Says you will be banned if you don't "confirm that you aren't sending spam". I don't want the less tech-savvy members falling for this one. Jesus Christ, PLEASE don't click on the link if you get a PM like this.

I'm pretty tech savy about such emails and this one actually got me to click on the link. Quite a few bits didn't add up but enough did to convince me it was a legit auto email from the admin guys here. Fortunately my antivirus trapped it and no harm done.

"Nasty" doesn't even begin to describe these types of viruses. Glad your AV caught it, or you'd be in a world of hurt right now...

Spam PM's deleted.
Can't delete emailed PM receipts, though.

I have now removed the actual PM text from future PM notification emails. You need to log in to see the PM received.

There's an easier way than clicking. Mouseover the link, copy it, then google the link. Odds are that if it's a malicious link, there will be chatter about it.

I just got a similar email from JosephWard. I know about this treat though but came here to see how to report the spam. Since it's already been known, I won't do anything about it.

Oh crap. I got this email as well. I've spent most of the night doing virus scans, updates etc on my computer/s. I clicked on the link in the email but got a message that it was a dangerous site (my words, not word-for-word). Went to my PM Inbox and there's not message at all. I guess I should run another scan??

Came to this particular board to see how I could contact Admin without wanting to report a post and found this thread. Panic mode ON.

The message was deleted by Pekka because it was a phony/scam. As long as you didn't actually visit the site linked to (and it sounds like your antivirus protected you), you're fine. BTW, in the future you won't see the text of a PM in the email you get notifying you of one.

I clicked on the link in the email which took me to a site which said I had 4-5 viruses, trojans etc of varying levels of concern. When I clicked on the link to remove them, I got the message about the site being unsafe. So I hightailed it out of there and ran another anti-virus scan on my computer.

Thanks for the heads up about the PM not appearing in the email and thanks to the OP for bringing this to the attention of members.

And more fool me, for clicking on a link in an email. Still, that's a lesson well learnt.

Thats exactly the purpose of scammers sending messages like this. To make users think they have an issue which can be "fixed" by the software they provide but if you go ahead and install it you get even more nasty stuff installed instead of removing the alleged malware.

A good thing you have anti-virus activated or you could have been in bigger trouble.
