On full frame, is 17-40 and 35L redundant or can you justify having both in the kit.

If I go full frame, my kit would be 17-40, 35L, 50 1.4, 70-200 f/4 IS. I shoot a wide variety of subjects at all light levels. I think this kit works for me, but I want a second opinion. I don't have much need for 2.8 over 70mm and can rent when a lens like that might make sense.

What do you think?

the 35L wouldn't be redundant if you needed the large aperture vs the 17-40s f4

OK. That's what I am thinking. If I go FF, I definitely want to go wider than 35, which is the widest EF focal length that I currently own. Thus, I am looking at purchasing the 17-40.

I have both, and both have completely different uses...definitely not redundant

Yeah,I'm not going to get the 35's shallow DOF and low light capabilities with the 17-40. I use the 35 so much, I guess I am a little worried the 17-40 will sit in the bag. Then again, I do use the 10-22 quite a bit on the crop.

Thanks for the reply.

I have both the 24L II and the 17-40L and I use them regularly. Heck I'm even thinking about the 35L... :D

Thanks for the reply.

I use my 35L for about 95% of time (I love it that much), so the 17-40 doesnt see much action...but it definitely does have its uses and is nice to have in the bag.
