Please help with the ID of this bird....Also, there was a Red Winged Black bird chasing this guy across the water and he turned around to see if he was still being pursued. I've never seen a bird do this before.

Yes it is a Kingfisher but you would need a shot of it's breast (or a good birder)to truly identify what kind. What country or land mass did you take this picture?
Belted kingfishers are what we have in North America.

Nice flight shots. These birds are fast and agile, can toy with pursuers.

This might be a male Belted Kingfisher. The female looks a lot like the male but has a rust brown band across the breast. They like to sit on sticks or wires over the water and dive in to catch fish. They might dive into a Red Wing nest too, although I have never seen it. :)

Belted Kingfisher for sure, confirming the sex would require a shot showing the breast but I'm leaning toward Mitch's hunch of it being a male. Looks like you caught a body/head shake in #2.

Pretty darn nice shooting by the way. These birds are quick.

Thanks for the help on the ID. Not the greatest pictures, but he was moving pretty darn fast across the water. I barely had time to get the camera up.
