wow, that front element is gigantic

Well, seeing that the specs state a 77mm filter, it can't be much bigger than sigma's 50mm 1.4 front element. :)

right, but it looks like the 85 is through and through glass (unlike the 50 1.4 where after the front element, there's the usual plastic/metal stuff)

kinda like the 85 canons.

I spoke with adorama and they said they should receive the 8-16 and the 17-50 os on the 25th of May. I'm not too sure of the others.

I can't wait that long (+ longer, after Canada gets it and reviews) !!! :(

I don't want to be so impatient as to pick up a potentially inferior non-VC Tamron :(

I called adorama last week about the 70-200; they said May 12 for that one.
With the price Sigma is asking, I am still waiting to hear the reviews, but I think I will be getting the new Canon.

How long after releasing a new lens does Canon normally wait before dropping prices? I am wondering if having Sigma coming in with such a high number, might cause Canon to go a little lower.

I don't know if canon ever drops their prices in response to other lens manufacturers. It's probably more likely that the actual street price of the sigma will drop, if anything.

Hmmm. Not sure how Customs and Excise would feel about that but it does sound like a good idea.

Have someone in the US that you trust send it to you declared as a gift with a value around AU$400 and you shouldn't have many problems (the receipt needs to be sent separately)

/Works here in NZ at least lol

This is dumb for a few reasons, not least of which is that if Customs ping you, you can be up for a LOT more than the original GST. (And don't anyone say it never happens, I know someone that got done.)

cheers, juice (Canon shooter, Elinchrom lighter, but pretty much agnostic on brands.)

I dont get it.. why would you anounce something and get people all warmed up to buy your products... and then let them wait for 6 million centuries.... anounce your stuff when you're ready to start to ship the goods to the stores.
