just to get a good idea... anyone remember how much the 50D was when it first came out?

it seems bodies can be had for upper $800's to mid $900's these days...

think i can haggle price down some?

I got mine for $1000 I believe when it came out. But I think $1100 was the norm.

Dunno if you colonials have anything like this (external link), where UK prices are tracked.

Just look through the official 50D thread... This is why the 7D's price should not have been a shock and rather a good price considering where the 50D first came in.

Pricing and Availability
The EOS 50D is compatible with the full lineup of Canon EF lenses as well as the Company's ever-growing line of affordable EF-S lenses created specifically for Canon Digital SLRs with APS-C size image sensors. The Canon EOS 50D Digital SLR camera is scheduled for October delivery and will be sold in a body-only configuration at an estimated selling price of $1,399.00*. It will additionally be offered in a kit version with Canon's EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM zoom lens at an estimated selling price of $1,599.00*.

thanks EOS! seems it's about 71% of the initial sticker shock...
wonder if the 7D will also go through this...

that's a great site to do some research and make purchases...
as i've said before, i'm not the one to follow the latest and the newest... i don't mind waiting a year for a good item...
