Hey guys. I have a 50d and the problem i have is that the picture on the LCD on the camera looks a LOT warmer than the picture on my laptop. How do i adjust the camera to match the lap top ? Or do i need to adjust the lap top to match the camera..

You need to adjust your laptop with a calibrator. You will only be able to adjust your camera LCD screen brightness I have to turn mine down to match my monitor.

Are all your camera settings set to default?

Here are a couple of thoughts:

  • The LCD on your camera will lie to you every time! Use only for an assessment of composition. Use your histogram for exposure. Don't worry about color temperature until you get the image on your computer (laptop).
  • Shoot RAW if you don't already. Doing so, you need not worry too much about what white balance is used by the camera at the time of capture.
  • Shoot a gray target during the shoot if there's any question about the color of the light being used and use that to adjust the WB of the photos once you get them to your computer.
  • The calibration tool that comes with Photoshop is not your best option for calibrating your monitor. Your eyes can be be fooled. Calibrate your monitor(s) using a hardware calibrator. This will take the guess work out of the equation.
  • Once you have the monitor calibrated you can, with confidence, adjust the temperature of your image to your taste.

You need to adjust your laptop and accept the fact that the camera LCD will probably lie to you :-)

With a 50D, your 8GB card should afford enough space for close to 300 RAW shots (I was getting about 160 on a 4GB card). I would think that would be enough for capturing shots for a single day. At the end of the day, dump the shots to your lappie and start all over. And if it's not, for $60 you can get a Transcend 8GB TS8GCF600 (external link).
