I'm planning on buying either this two lens. They have the same good macro capability for wide angle lens which what I'm looking for. However, why is the price difference is $100? Is the 24 really that good compared to the 28? I need some inputs please :)

I think it's just that you have to pay more for a wider angle lens.

No, at least not according to the review on popular photography: http://archive.popphoto.com …uperspeed-sigma-trio.html (external link)

I only have the 28mm f1.8 so I can't compare them directly. The 28mm lens has excellent optics, at least on my crop-sensor cameras. (XT and T2i) The downside of the 28mm lens: weight, slow focus, and noisy. Upside: close focus is possible, and the quality of the image.

i have the 24mm and really like it. i can't answer to the price difference. i know the 24mm used to be cheaper but got more expensive over the years. it's a great lens, cheap (compared to 24L), fast, and sharp wide open. macro is fun to play with.

i went with the 24mm because i want to add a 35mm down the road.

Yea the 24/1.8 is definitely on my list when I'm able to. Look at the alternatives if the pricing confuses you.

At 28mm you have the canon to compete with which has USM. At 24mm you only have the 24/1.4's to compete against which pose a considerable price jump.

I would guess the price is higher for the 24mm because the only direct competition for it is the insanely expensive Canon L version. Capitalism at its finest.

I do like my Sigma 24, though. It took some adjusting with MA to get it focusing just right. I probably would have had to ditch it if I didn't have a camera with MA. But now that I have it tweaked, I'm quite pleased, even wide open. The focus is sometimes a little slow and noisy, but I expected that based on the reviews I had read. The IQ is good on mine, and it's really amazing how closely it will focus.

I have the 28/1.8 and unlike the same in the Nikon mount that I owned the AF is dead on. It's very sharp, I use it mostly for large copy work in a copystand.

So which one would be the best choice for a 5dc? I can't seem to decide. :(

I kind of confused by your gear list. It's says you have a 5d mk II and a 24L already?

It may be the MFD, that Sigma pair has the best MFD in that range.

I'm planning on selling the 24L and 50L and buy a sigma 24 or 28 and a sigma 50. I will be buying a 5dc too and get rid of the 40d. Just need to free up some cash and guess the Sigma will do the job.

28mm lens, it's cheaper and the actual focal length difference is less than 4mm.

Finally, someone started this thread before I had to. :) Thinking of getting the 28mm to go with my Tokina 12-24mm for video and stills for a trip to the UK in June :)
