Im getting rid of my Tamron 28-75 in favor of a cheap prime setup. I think I'm going to go with:

Canon 28mm f/1.8 OR Canon 35mm f/2
Canon 50mm f/1.4
Canon 85mm f/1.8

I'm gonna be doing a lot more portraits and want some faster primes with better DOF. I would use the 28mm/35mm for more informal and fun stuff and the other 2 for the usual stuff. Hope to have this setup by the end of summer.

If it's $500 each lens, that means $1500 to spend in total. And since we're buying in the US...

Canon 17-40 F4/L
Canon 70-200 F4/L
Mr. Plastic Fantastic. (50/1.8).

This is only on paper; I've never shot with this mixture.

I like the idea of "The 3 Stooges" haha defiantly not a "Holy Trinity"

I would say
18-55mm 3.5-5.6
50mm 1.8
55-250mm 4-5.6

same here.

although i'm now just upgrading from the 55-250 IS to a 70-200 f/4L. :)

I don't worship lenses, nor do I see them as a "trinity."
I do like the 35f2, Sigma 50f2.8 macro and the 85f1.8.
I don't see the religious analogy at all.

I'll go with the three I have:

35 f/2
50 f/1.8
100 2.8 Macro

Hard to be the IQ for the total price.

For the sharpness, the 100mm macro has to be in there somewhere.
