Yea maybe, just not sure how ? They sometimes disappear before I even give out any contact info, but often after I do. I just had someone win and auction on EBay then not pay for the item, no response whatsoever ?

This is also a way for those bozos to spam you, Diver-Down.
When you respond, they'll often have their email setup to auto-respond,
with the contents being some sort of foolish and/or illegal money-making scheme.

I actually stopped using ebay pretty much because I do everything over my local craigslist, I sold, bought and traded through craigslist and never have any problems. Much easier than dealing with stupid paypal/ebay with their fees coming out of the their asses. And you get to examine what you are buying before you buying it. And no fees involved, easy to make a posting. Yes I get an occasional Nigerian fraud response every now and then, but you all know them, so it is no problem at all, When I get a Nigerian fraud response, I just reply: "Forwarded to FBI." Never gotten a return response after that :-)

Every time I try to sell things I get people say that they want the item then I never hear from them again ?? Doesn't matter where the item is listed: craigslist, EBay, POTN, any online classifieds.

Maybe someone that has done this can explain why people do this ??

it's been happening a lot to me too lately for some reason... used to not be the case though... ???

I just put a couple of stipulations in my listings, such as insisting on a dollar-amount
offer in their response. If those stipulations aren't met, it tells me they didn't even
bother to read my ad, so they're not interested in buying anything.

I also use Sneakemail as an anonymous blind between my real addresses and the criminals.
At only $2/month, it's very useful for other situations as well.

Does Sneakemail also hide your IP address?

Thanks.

I don't know if it does or not, though I would think the answer is yes.

I have had most of my luck selling on craigslist. Granted I'm in a smaller area but I still get interest. I always put 'no shipping, no paypal, local pickup only' and I'm not afraid to trash an email if I suspect scamming.
Maybe I was buying and selling horses long enough to get a thick skin when it comes to potential scammers, I have no problems wading through.

Ah I get this a lot.. See a 70-200 f4 IS for $800 CAD (which is amazingly low for a Canadian price), jump on it, no response, and now I have Weight Loss e-mails

It's still worth it. I sell on eBay only as a last resort. I hate giving eBay/Paypal a 10% cut.

Gmail does a good job of screening out spam, so I don't fret about it much anymore.

Hah !! On a personal site, I received a too good sounding generic response from someone claiming they lived in Florida. Not counting the spelling & grammar mistakes that are usually the hallmark of a scam and probably a bogus picture, the "Where were you born" question's answer was, not surprisingly : Nigeria

I couldn't type a reply fast enough expressing my interest and even offering extra gob's of $$ just to meet "her" NOT !

DUH !!!!!!

Mike

I have a separate email just for craigslist. Sometimes you could tell its a spammer because they only ask if the "item is still available," most interested buyers ask more questions and specific questions..

I've now started to use a temporary email service to host my craigslist posts. It's randomly generated name and can even allow you to "timeout" after a few months so there's no need to go back and delete it.. just regenerate another. There's bunch out there and you can find them by typing "temporary email".
