My friend came by and basically within 5 minutes we were shooting in my garage (I know, not the most attractive background). I shot my 7D with a Sigma 10-20 with a 430ex2 and Fong (because I only have a 430 compatible Fong :P)

This is my first time shooting a model.

C&C is appreciated - but avoid criticizing the fact that I shot in my garage - we had been drinking and didn't want to drive to a new location.

If anyone has any suggestions on how I could Post these because I release them to really make them pop, I'd truly appreciate it!

Great model, my only suggestion is i wouldve used a different lens if you had a chance to. That wide angle lens kinda ruins the way her body looks.

Yeah, unfortunately due to space, my "held together with duct tape" Sigma was all I could use. I let my friend borrow my Tokina for his trip.

They are presentable alright, she gives such a great vibe that the pics are good to look at. I think you should ask her for a second try but not in such a hurry and in a better environment.

THANKS! :D

Ya definitely, she's my buddy's girlfriend so we're going to try again sometime soon!

She had just gotten off work at 11PM (waitress) so we tried to make it as quick as possible.

Hopefully I can line up something crazier like a GT-R or Gallardo for the next one...

Does anyone think I should bother cloning out background bits or do you think they're negligible?

Those are good sample, test shots. As pretty as she is, the lens is not very flattery. Try it again out doors in the evening and have a lens > 50mm.

Will do - we had just met so I thought I was lucky to get *any* facetime considering my lack of experience. I'll do a sundown 85mm shoot one day.

Do you have any suggestions on if/how I could do Post on these to bring them past the "test shot" level?

I'll throw in my two cents. Keep in mind I've never shot a model in my life (and with a flash to boot) so these are just my observations and opinions.

She's really easy on the eyes. ;) ditto the above comments about lens distortion which is especially evident in #2. Faves are 3 and 4 - great relaxed vibe and again she's just so easy on the eyes. (I think lens distortion comes into play again on no 4 again, fwiw).

I would watch the lighting. There are noticeable shadows on No. 2 (her skirt :o and the blur above the hood) and No. 3 (the right side of her face).

Ya, personally I dig the distortion, and I had to use this lens considering how little room I had, but obviously I'm biased.

Next time, I will definitely schedule a time (this was improv) and hopefully I'll own light stands and a softbox by then. :D

So in terms of post and everything that I can change, just leave them as is?

Distortion can create cool effects, but I think most models don't want their bodies to be pushed and pulled all over the place by optical wizardry (or mis-wizardry). She has a pretty face. why mess it up?

Since you've less room, I would have tried shooting head and shoulders portraits or torso-up portraits as well. The last one is owned by her facial expression and we don't need to see her lower body.

I am by no means a pro with post, but I think some of the opportunties identified here (focus, distortion, shadows) aren't easily fixable in post. I think they're fun shots, show some chemistry and definitely give you room to experiment and explore next time. Just be sure to post the results of the second shoot. ;)

Excellent point. Originally, we were shooting "the car" but I didn't have the resources to really make that happen :)

Definitely will post the second shoot. Appreciate the comments everyone :) Shooting models is fun! [now I need to find advice on how to get my girlfriend to not be mad at me about this shoot..]
