Well, finally was able to do some "playing" in the yard today with my T1I. Here's my contribution to this thread:

Canon 75-300mm lens, F5.6, 1/790sec, ISO 100

IMAGE: http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/pp238/srg2412/YellowFlower.jpg
Canon 18-55mm lens, F5.6 1/99sec., ISO 100
IMAGE: http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/pp238/srg2412/RedFlower.jpg

Can anyone tell me how to make sure the EXIF info stays with the picture? Tomorrow is "Nifty Fifty" day!!!! :)

Canon R6, Canon 24-105mm F4-7.1 IS STM, Canon Ef 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L, IS II USM, Canon Nifty Fifty

Thanks for that mate. Was more of a hiking trip than a photography trip so wasn't puting too much effort into the shots so was glad they turned out well.

I bought it in Georges in Sydney. I got them to knock about $80 off the twin kit and throw in a 2 yr warranty. Not a massive discount but every little helps. I would have normally gone with a grey import from somewhere like Digital Rev but my old 300D was out of action and I really wanted to get my hands on a camera for the Blue Mountains trip. The cost of camera gear in aus is ridiculous. Don't know any good retailers in WA i'm afraid.

I wend for the 500D because, as I mentioned, I already had a 300D and had a few lenses there that I could carry on using. I was quite tempted by the Pentax Kx though. Very cheap, good specs and a good selection of older cheap lenses are available as they haven't changed their mount in donkeys years.

Decided to stick with what I know in the end though and went for the Canon. If I was starting again from scratch I would seriously have considered the D5000 though. Lokoks like a nice piece of kit.

I've been looking at places like Digital Rev but mainly Digital Camera Warehouse. A little bit dearer but still cheaper than the shops and with the Canon Warranty.
I have no probs buying grey imports but for peace of mind for the camera will go non-grey. If the price is right in the stores, I will buy from there though. I wish the time would hurry up .. gotta do our tax return so have to wait for the end of financial year.

Anyways thnx for the response. Hope the 500D is meeting your expectations.

Last week there was a shooting here in the city where I live, a friend of mine was driving with his wife when everything happened. Two bullets came through his windshield and hit the back seat. Lucky to be alive!

My wife and I, with our two year old girl and six months old baby boy drove through the same street less that ten minutes before that very same shooting, where two men were slaughtered in a car exactly the same model and color we were driving... crazy!

crazy dan! glad you guys are ok!

Holy crap, your friend and wife were VERY lucky that's for sure. I think they could have bought a lottery ticket that night and won. I don't know about you but this sort of thing only happens on tv where i live. It puts things into perspective doesn't it.

flowrider - you're really impressing me with what you are getting from the kit lens. That's a wicked outcome. I've often read posts on the net about ppl saying the kit lens isn't the best and might be an idea to buy the body and lens of choice. At least I can see from your pics that they are pretty darned decent lenses.

tomrf - great the texture on the flys eyes.

CrystalRose - nice one of those lilliums ? or lily or whatever they are .. lovely colours

sprkplug08 - i'm sure someone will get a jolly from seeing that. Was trying to work out where the driver goes.

Old Sally - Cool photos . .. how sweet Goosey Lucy and her kids .. I'd be sitting there going awwww. Like the last one mainly ..it's an instant like ... I like how you can see the road winding up amongst the greenery. Reminds me of the Gillies Highway up to Atherton ...unless you're the driver it can make you feel a tad queezy.. it goes up like that with so many bends for ages.

I like it alot. IQ is very good, but the only downside is the macro focusing seems to be very soft.
