Mine lasted about 5 minutes. I mounted the camera on the Stroboframe bracket. Mounted the 430 EXII on the bracket with the cord attached. Took a few pics then went to set it down. The part where the flash attaches to the cord and cord attaches to the bracket came apart at the seam. Stripping the tiny little screws out. Anybody else have this happen? I mean I couldn't have been any gentler with it. I'm a bit concerned that the replacement is gonna do the same only this time the flash is gonna hit the ground. And that would suck.

I did a search and it seems the black flash mounting bracket on the stroboframe is the culprit. Wish I had done the search before. Oh well.

Hi,

I don't think the bracket is the problem. I think the poor design of the new oc-e3 just cannot take the weight of the 580 flash. I did not have this much trouble with the older cables with the dial.

I have taken to super gluing the base to the top. This seems to work for a while. But I still break them way too often. I would have been through at least 6 in the last 12 months. I also find that the shoe slide part it self will eventually also become weak and then the TTL feature stops because the contacts to the strobe are not properly made. End result - flash fires full power and the images are over exposed.

I'm looking for a third party hot shoe made of metal or solid plastic to replace the broken ones that I have but I cannot find a supplier.

You mean that it fell apart something like this?

Silly me. I only thought this happened to the inexpensive copies and not the real thing.
Glad to hear that I didn't spend that much money on the Canon only to have the same type of thing happen.

I slid it into the hotshoe, and went to slide the lock over into place.
As I was sliding it, it just popped apart.

Some people hunt with a gun. I use a Canon.

Pretty much what I experienced with on of my chords.

Yup. My Canon one broke just like that. I exchanged it from the online store I bought it from. and bought one from FlashZebra. I use the Canon as a back up

I think it's hit or miss with all of them. I also think that the quality control can very all lot, not just between manufacturers, but within the same plant. As I've posted elsewhere, I had a 3 foot Yongnuo, brand new, come apart the first time I slide the flash onto it.
