40D Repair vs. Canon Loyalty Program

My 40D has been acting up so I brought it to a repair shop yesterday. Today they called and told me they need to completely disassemble it and repair the back focus blah blah blah. In short, it will cost me $335. I've also been (unsuccessfully) trying to find information on the Canon Loyalty Program because I'm considering sending it in (along with some cash) and getting a refurbished 7D in return. Has anyone had to make a similar decision or had experience with the loyalty program?

Was it a local repair shop of Canon service center? A complete disassemble to adjust back focus seems wrong. For the loyalty program, call Canon service and talk to them.

Through the Loyalty Program, the best you can do is a 50D for $699. They do not offer the 7D or 5D, T1i / T2i for trade-in.

used, they go for 550-650, so it's not the worst thing to have a fully repaired/fully functional one to sell.

It's a local repair shop, but it's well regarded.

I think I would also get an estimate from Canon
