I like it, not usually a big fan of actions to tell the truth, but it works out well with the composition and the overall attitude of the photo to go that way...

I specialize in Creative Portraiture, Music and Wedding Photography.

Actions? I don't use photoshop actions..(i'm not even sure what they are?) Are those things you download and they give you a set of actions already performed for you? Like, say you download a "film-vignette" action, it will give it a filmy look with a vignette or something? Yeah--I don't use those.

-Ericson.

Thanks! Yeah, used a series of curves, temps, and color adjustments. No actions.

Thanks! Yeah, used a series of curves, temps, and color adjustments. No actions.

And putting them all together in a sequence = action.

Why are actions getting a bad rap here?

cheers, juice (Canon shooter, Elinchrom lighter, but pretty much agnostic on brands.)

So, what is considered not an action? Not putting the image through photoshop at all?

I understood actions to be files you download that automatically adds layers adjustments with no effort and no creativity or skill of your own. You can assume where the bad rep comes from..

Not at all. An action is simply a series of events in PS, strung together to run (semi-)automatically. I thought everyone made them themselves, as well as downloading/buying them. It can be as simple as adjusting the exposure, and upwards from there to things with 50 steps.

Actions are just automating a series of steps. Some can be as bad as you described, some leave pauses or steps for the photographer to make adjustments of their own.. Some are designed to take the monotony out of repetitive tasks like resizing or cropping
