I was shooting a bike race in rural Utah when this guy came toward me from some distance between a canal and the road. Thought I would capture the moment.

Interesting fellow. i am not sure if i like the blown out bg or not.

Polarizer, blue sky would have made the wheat section pop so much more.

I agree with Mike's suggestion on a CPL, but it's still a great shot! Though I would be worried if a random man was approaching me with that look on his face....

Very nice capture! Did you talk to him after you snagged this?

I would have like to but I didn't speak with him. There were numerous riders coming that I had to pay attention to. I just got out of his way as he didn't look too pleased to be in the middle of the commotion.

nice capture, the blown out sky is something you can't do anything about, so i wouldn't worry about it. if you take your time to screw on a filter or something you might have missed the shot.

From the looks of him and his clothes, there's nothing to say that he is homeless. He's one well outfitted and dressed homeless person if your suggestion is true! :D

I keep going back and looking at this picture. It's so evocative. The subject is exposed very well, awesome character study.

Great capture! There is such character in his expression. When you see a picture like this come along you shoot it and hope for the best and this one is a winner. It's easy to second guess yourself after the fact. The bottom line is that you just don't have time to pop-on filters or try to deal with background lighting conditions. Again, great capture!

Thanks for the comments. You are exactly right. There was no time for planning, only time to react. I was pleased with the outcome for all the reasons people like this type of shot. The motion, the character in his face, the expression. I think I'll add this to my portfolio.
