Afternoon all. Not long home from a weekend away during which I discovered "rustic charm" can be more rustic than charming, and can include lack of hot water, blown power and very noisy rats in the walls...

Nice - looks a lot like the one I bought last week :) Only mine's a Maxx Sport. Would have loved an SP23 but couldn't justify the price difference.

Back home safe!! Almost got stuck on the red soil roads with the rain, made it through to Eulo where the tar started again and it poured that night..whew!

Question from internet: "How do we take care of a muslin backdrop?"

Zack: "You take it out the back, spray it lightly with gasoline, step back and throw a match on it. You've taken care of that backdrop."

cheers, juice (Canon shooter, Elinchrom lighter, but pretty much agnostic on brands.)

Not sure, but my 300/4L non-IS hood (the one that doesn't lock in place at all) was quoted as $165 plus cost of parts, which was about $150-200 I think. Similar (if not the same) parts so there's a bit of a price range for you to prepare for.

Fixed it myself.

Eventually found a mention online that you can remove the rubber end off the hood by carefully peeling it back. Under that, there's a locking ring. Unscrew that. Remove the tripod mount ring, then wriggle the hood off backwards. (this bit took a while).

As suspected, the rubber ring inside the hood (to dampen vibration) had jumped its mount and broken. I've removed said ring, and found the hood still locks in the extended position without it (just rattles if you shake it).

So it's all back together and fine. If the rattle bothers me, I'll eventually get another o-ring for it and put it back in.

Juicy!

It's a good managable size for location stuff. Any bigger and I'd save it for studio only. Unless you got a few guys to carry C-stands + grip arms and sandbags :)

Sounds like a win, what would we do without the interwebs.

Ed baby! Where's the pull-back shot?!?!?!?!

Good to hear it's working well. How easy did you find it to setup/use?

Where did you get it from?
