If you're a hobbyist. How much do you spend on photography?

Just a hobbyist, only L lenses, I have now more than 7kEuros of equipment

Buy-sell-buy and upgrade is killing my bank account. Happily, used lenses prices do not decrease so much.

If only I bought the right lenses at the first time !

yup, if only! but i was skimping at first thinking that it would just be a hobby. then my girl got me the 24-70L and im hooked with L lenses! next up is a 70-200 2.8 ISmk1. if for some reason im going to get paid for taking pictures in the next few weeks, then i will go for the 70-200 2.8 IS mk2. but right now, im just aiming for the mark 1.

then after that, onto the prime lenses that i want! 35L, 85L, and 135L!

man....just thinking about it makes my wallet/bank account hurt while making my mouth drool!

and oh yeah, ive only been shooting seriously since october of last year...and here i am already spent about 5-6k in gear...its a rough estimate since i dont really want to know or think about how much i have spent...

Does travelling expenses included? If so, atleast US$20,000+ for equipment only, between $10-11,000 and counting, lol!

No I'm not a photographer, I just shoot with Canon DSLR with those lenses with red thingy...;)

I think I am over 4K. I have been able to get various odd jobs, so I am hoping to break even by next year and then maybe actually MAKE some money.

If I was to sell all my Canon gear, I would be able to buy a Hasselblad H3D II - 50, 80mm, 50mm & 150mm kit!

Now that is sometimes a little depressing for me to think about! :(

I just got back into photography after a 15 year break... since January I've acquired the following... I don’t even want to add it up.

T1I with 18-55 & 55-250 (xmas present - this is when the obsession began again:confused:)

T1I Grip
7D and Grip
100 Macro
50 MkII
10-22
24-105L IS
70-200L IS
100-400L IS
Sigma 150-500mm OS
430EX x2
Kenko Extension Tubes
Kenko 1.4x

Kata and Burton back packs, books, videos, off camera flash cords, Slik tripod, Bogen monopod, ballheads, lens plates, macro flash bracket, filters, etc....

It's a sickness I tell you!!

But it's still cheaper than the fortune I've sunk into RC helicopters over the years. Soon I'll be liquidating the helis to free up cash for more photo equipment!

Cameras - 5D MkII/Grip, 7D/Grip, T1i/Grip
Lens - EF-S 10-22, EF-S 18-55, EF 35-70, EF-S 55-250, EF 17-40L, EF 24-105L IS, EF 70-200 2.8L IS, EF 70-210, EF 100-400L, Sigma 150-500 OS, EF 100L IS, EF 180L, EF 85 1.8, EF 50 1.8

I got 5d mk II now, with 24 -105 and 200 mk II. I also got a full collection of Canon F1 ( Olympic version ) and Canon Fd 50 1.2 L plus Fd 20-35 f3.5 L. If counting all the thing I bought then sold, I must spent toooooo much. And do not count what I am aiming to buy......

dont add to the credit crisis if you dont need to, deals always come around. patience is virtue

As for me, with the buying and selling just a few grands. Nothing like a mortgage and other notes to keep me grounded

Priceless pics of my 2 little kiddies is worth every cent on camera gear.

That's what I have been telling myself, ... and my husband.

... and my friends and family when they find out how much the combo in my hands (5DII+24-105) is worth.

Over the last 3-4 years this hobby cost me just under three grand, that's counting all the equipment I was able to sell. Looking back I could've gotten a very nice body+Lens combo for this kind of money, with enough left over for a flash. Of course I would have to spend it all at one time, not over a few years, and I would've missed all this fun playing with different bodies and lenses ;). I think I am all set for a while though. Or so I think. Definitely. Even though that Sigma 30mm prime looks so darn good right now... damn this site and their helpful advices !

I've got about $1200 "invested" right now. This is still less than I have put in my guitar and related gear.
