Here is what I've done:

- Silver XT Kit w/18-55 - I picked it up brand new for $150 off a clearance table at Office Depot. Used this for around two years IIRC.
- 24-105 f/4L - My one and only Christmas present in 2009.
- Black XTi w/Grip - Because of how cheap my XT was, I sold it and upgraded to a XTi and ended up money ahead. :D
- 1D Classic

My next purchase is likely to be a 17-40mm f/4L and possibly a 70-200mm f/2.8 IS II

Bought a canon ixus 75 several years ago just to have as a snap camera.

got into photography a bit later on so wanted something better so got a panasonic fz28

got into it even more so sold that and got a canon 500D with kit lens (18-55 IS) and 55-250 IS.
Then got the 50 1.8.
Next it was the battery grip
After that it was the Sigma 10-20 for when i went on my honeymoon.
Then after that i sold the 55-250 IS and got the 70-200 f4 L.
Pretty Happy with everything now so all thats left for my needs is an external flash which i plan to get next month.

Very informative thread. BTW, what's the principal suggestion?

Which order should be followed to go about it (gear procurement)?

The order of procurement will have a lot to do with your type of photography (portrait, landscape, etc). It's always wise to spend money for high quality when you do buy a lens... rather than spending more money later to upgrade a cheap lens. If money is tight, the used market is a good resource as long as your careful.
