Hey guys,

I have been looking around to purchase S90 for my vacation in Aug. I have looked around and found that 42nd Photo, Abe's of maine were the company with better pricing.

Since I like BH a lot, I called them to PM and they wouldn't honour neither store for some reason. Does anyone know if it's okay to buy from either stores? They both got some mixed reviews and since I rarely purchase gears anymore, I'd like to hear what you guys say.

Let me know
Don

I have bought from Abe's of Maine several times and had no issues. I haven't had to return anything, though, if that is what you are worried about.

Check them out on http://www.resellerratings.com (external link). Abes of Maine has a (deserved) reputation for trying to sell you extras or add-ons; even if you order on-line expect a phone call to "verify" the sale and try to sell you a service agreement, memory, case, . . . that you may not want. I've never dealt with 42nd St.

I recently bought a dishwasher from Abes. Came with free shipping. They called and wanted to "upgrade" the shipping for an extra $100 - which, as far as I could tell, just gave me a tracking #.

I said "NO" and the DW arrived on time, no problems. (Unlike a lot of these places that manage to be out of stock when you decline the upgrade, I've never had a problem with Abes.)

I gotcha. I suggest no one dealt with 42nd St?

Is it worth $7 difference ($350 camera) to deal with BH photo?

OP, I noticed you're from Canada, are you shipping it there? Abes of Maine has horrible international shipping, and UPS ground (which is what they'll use) incurs brokerage fees to Canada.

If you're picking it up across the border then Abe's is fine. Just be prepared for the upsell call. Knowing me, I'd never be around to pick up that call, so I'd just pay $7 more and have peace of mind...

If you look at price history B&H/Adorama price drops normally follow Abe's of Maine.

If you're concerned about the $7, you could probably wait a week or two and get that price.

Asterisk,

Thank you for the post. Do you know if Abe's of Maine is an authorized Canon dealer?

Yes. Abe's of Maine (a.k.a. Abe's Electronic Center, Inc.) is an authorized Canon dealer.

Just ordered S90 from Abe's of Maine I've inputed my telephone # off by 1 digit so I don't get harassed all day. It's shipped now and it's on its way to me.

Thanks everyone!
Don
