Custom Function III-2: Choose option 2.

Might be old news, but whatever. :p

It may be old, but it's not the solution either. The slowdown the 7D shows in low light is independent from the AF.

Uh, no. The only way to get 8 FPS all the time, even with the appropriate custom function settings, is to have the Continuous Shooting-High drive mode selected. You can't get 8 FPS in any of the other drive modes.

back in the film days we had to run MF to get FPS anyway. So while having servo running while focusing is great, it CAN lead to one lost shot in the middle which kills a sequence anyway. The way I shoot FPS I shoot either one shot of MF and guarantee myself all shots in focus using DOF. ;) Doesn't work for everything/everyone but it works for me.

there's an issue with the 7D where it doesn't give you 8fps even in H mode though. The OP is suggesting it's because the camera is slowing the FPS to only take in focus shots -vs- ripping along at full FPS but maybe turning in an OOF shot. While that's ONE reason, even with the focus set to manual a 7D will drop below 8fps at times, so it's not JUST AF issues. The other reason is the meter apparently. Turn it to M and MF and you get 8fps 100% of the time (with it set to H obviously).

I had the impression that the OP was stuck in 8 FPS mode and wanted something slower.

I don't think this is the case. At least my memory indicates that it isn't the case

From the 7D sticky thread.

Bizarre 7d Continuous shooting speed variation

Probably something for you to have a read through if you are still considering the 7D
