I'm still considering whether to brave the crowds tonight. I'm thinking I may just head to the Portland Waterfront on the lightrail where they will be doing Blues Festival music 'till 10 -- the fireworks get fired off from across the river and would be a different point of view from last year.

My decision was just made for me. It's pouring.

Bummer JJ... :(

I shot the Disney show at 1s @ f/11 ISO 100 and I think I spun the aperture down to f/16 for the finale. In this case though, I won't have to worry about exposing (or overexposing) a castle in the shot so I can probably go longer on the SS.

Our favorite spot (with Bovine play by play) offers no foreground to speak of so I went with the 70-200 and shot fairly tight this time. I'll give my effort a 4 or a 5 but the real fun was just being out there with my wife for the first time in four years!

8 second-ish exposures around f/8-11 or so ISO 100 on a tripod with cable release.

Hope everyone had a fabulous 4th! :D

Those look pretty good to me Jay. I choose a spot to shoot that is family friendly and not necessarily photo friendly. I get some shots, but I still enjoy spending the time with family and friends first. If I was going by myself, I have a killer location for literally shooting straight up at the bursts...with no obstructions at all.

I have no idea if it's possible to embed videos in the posts so here goes.

This video is probably an oldie, but I haven't seen it until today and had a good laugh. :-)

Same here! We were up at 7am and had a long day so I didn't want to have to brave the crowds for fireworks, plus it makes it harder to get decent shots. We found out last year that we could still see a decent part of a local show from an empty parking lot on another road. So last night we decided to try our luck again. Some of the lower ones get blocked by the trees, but for the most part you can see pretty well. Best part is no crowds once it is over!

Uploading my shots from the cards now, hope I got some decent shots!

Bummer JJ... :(..

Just before the Naperville fireworks, the skies parted and the rain stopped. I hopped on my bike and headed to a hill in the forest preserve. Not the best location but I got a decent panorama of the different displays around northern Illinois.

@#$% Crap.. Looks like Flickr has taken away the ability to embed a link to the pic. WTF!!

Pano of the local displays.

Every year I get one or two that I just like....nothing special...just something that caught my eye while sorting.

Thanx, most of those are private fireflowers. This was from our municipal display. The pond gave for an interesting reflection.
