Cracking shots, #2 especially!

Bryans way of doing it is a bit risky and overly complicated (balancing dishes on stuff etc). Simply take your clear dish / container and stand it on some holographic paper / blank CD / blank DVD etc and use an off camera flash or fixed light source (sunlight, desklamp etc). If you're having trouble focussing place a tiny scrap of paper / plastic on the water surface, establish focus then remove the paper etc.... From trial and error I've found olive oil to work best..

If you can find a copy of the Jan 2010 edition of Practical Photography I produced an article explaining the setup for their Weekend Project section.

Carl

Thanks, Carl. For my setup, I shot it outside, in the patio, didn't use a tripod and used a picture of a pizza from the newspaper as the color background. The hardest part was focusing. Had to manually focus every shot since I was hand holding. I found the use of a tripod to be too cumbersome since I was shooting all over the glass container.

You have some great macro shots in your page, btw!

Awesome. The colours and arrangement in the second shot are superb.
