I am currently thinking of buying a sigmalux. What is the importance of those digits?

Why would you want to know someone else's serial number??

Because I bought a sigmalux, waited for it for more than 1 month, believing it was being ordered and shipped as the latest making from the factory... it turned out I was lied to and the lens was from a store which couldn't sell it for a long long time - especially because of their bad reputation at handling equipment. The lens of course looked like new, but was broken and probably used numerous times before or smth..

So.. I basically aimed at getting a brand new lens and got ****ed with anyway. I am in the process or writing complaints, but I just want to make sure I get a brand new one for real in about a month from now, which is when the new lenses actually arrive.

Thus the need for serial numbers, or at least first few digits. The lens I'm returning today starts with 10075..

Oh and, the guy selling the lenses is the only sigma representative in my country.

I have had a Sigma 50mm F1.4 for 2 years
The image quality is very good. The color, contrast, lack of flare, lack of CA, and sharpness have all been good.
I have not seen focus issues with a 5D, 7D, 40D, or 5D mark II
It can focus where I want it too, even wide open.

I am not sure why some people have problems with the lens.

I will have to check the serial number. My point was that a 2 year old Sigma lens has no issues.

Despite their fairly positive rating of simplyelectronics I always check this site http://www.resellerratings.com/ (external link) before ordering stuff online....just in case.
