That shot is of the wheel just starting up. The gate was opened to let the water flow to the wheel...and the first movement is just beginning. The wheel is perfectly balanced....with no load on it, you can actual turn the wheel by hand very easily.

Di....the mill is over 150 years old....the original mill was abandoned in 1955 when the patriarch of the family died and his sons decided they wanted to do something else. The property say idle from 55 until the mid 90s when the oldest son decided he had the bug and wanted to return to the old homestead and run the mill. After extensive repairs and renovations, the mill reopened in 2000....it has been operational since....
