Great set of photos. I was there saturday, and sunday. I am just now going through what I shot those days. The person I was with had one of those digital pedometers. It claimed the distance from general admission parking to right beside the photo pit to be 1.3 miles. How accurate it is I dont know.

Next year I want to do the photo pit.

This year you had to buy the photo tour in order to get the photo pit so it ended up costing like $75 compared to $20 and getting there early to get a front row spot.

Very true but the $75 cost also included "free" preferred parking (which saved $10-$15 I think) and also included unlimited free water (I drank 9 bottles - 9 x $3 = $27) and also included $8 in food vouchers. That stuff added up is a $45-$50 value. Not to mention the fact that I didnt have to wait in line to get in.

All in all I think it was worth every penny and will definitely do it again next year.

Yes, I am definitely doing the photo tour next year. I paid $7 for parking in general admission parking.

I did the family pack thing and brought a few of my friends, came with a parking pass and food, etc. All in all there are definitely multiple approaches.

Great pics. I was there Saturday also and was in the "Photo Pit" section. Unfortunately they decided to put a speaker tower right in front of the pit so that ended up in about 20% of my shots.

I'm very new to photography and have absolutely never tried to do any aircraft photography. To say it was a bit of a challenge is an understatement. I took about 3800 pics and am sure I have some "keepers" in there but need to sort through them. Hopefully I have some that turn out as well as yours did.

I'm glad I didn't try to get in the photo pit - we had the same speaker tower issue at the chalet.

That's interesting. The Dayton Defense Chalet tickets are $60.00 each. You get a parking pass right across from the show (thought it takes forever to get out... ). They also have great food and air conditioning in the chalet. All the water and soda you can drink. Beer too. :D

I can see me and my photographer buddy doing the photo pass, but I'm not sure I'd get any better photos from the photo pit. Where is it located? The chalets are to the EXTREME left of the airfield...about as far as you can walk from the parking lot.

Thanks! BTW, I took more photos at this event than I ever have at any other. About 2000 taken with both my 5DM2, and my 7D - filled both my 16gb CFs, and my two 8gb back ups! The dangers of shooting in high-speed mode....:o

well if you want to see some jet trucks and jet cars up close and personal you definitely want to go to that. I shot the event a couple years ago with the resident photographer, pretty crazy experience.

Does sound like an interesting experience to photograph, though I can't say I'm much of a fan of jet cars/trucks. I can't even think about that sort of thing without the following going off in my brain:

SUNDAY!, SUNDAY!!, SUNDAY!!!!!!
