Hi everyone,

I am thinking of getting this lens off of ebay or somewhere else. Before I go any further, I would like to ask you if this lens can serve as an every-day lens. I've read many comments about it being mainly a portrait lens, but the truth is that i would like to leave it attatched on to my 550D as much as possible. I am well aware that the 50mm equivalent for a APS-C camera is 80mm, and I do know that's not very wide, but even though, will this lens do the trick for me?
Do you ever find yourself in a situation where you say to yourself "Oh god, I wish i had a wide-angle lens right now" ? I guess that could be solved by simply taking the picture from further away, but I would like to know yoru opinion anyway.

here enter combatmedics contest to win a free 50mm:
https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=906565

then you can decide if you like it or not...

For the money, these are one of the best lens on the market. Especially for EF users!

Playing around with my flash again tonight, managed to get my cat to cooperate a little bit :)

Off camera YN-468, sitting on the floor about 2-3 feet camera left, at 1/64 power with no modifiers. Same setup for both shots, but different angles and he had moved so different effect.

Seems like you're pretty happy with the "nifty-fifty!!" Congratulations. I bought the 50mm f/1.4 and love it too. Sharp and great DOF. Now I want a 100mm f/2.8 macro...

is there a IQ difference between the 1.8 and 1.4? i was thinking of getting a 1.4 since my 1.8 broke.
