I met a few guys on the Kelby photowalk on Saturday that were shooting the 1DIII and another had the 7D. Both were appealing but that 1D body is so sweet! Am I crazy for wanting to possibly make this switch?

I think you would be crazy not to want to switch..... :D

I owned a brand new 7D and loved it, it took excellent pics. But then I looked around at the prices of used MkIII's, falling like a stone, and decided that if I could sell that 7D without too much of a loss, I was going to get my dream body. And that's what happened. Both are great cameras, but man, the 1D's are just different. I have done the same sort of tradeoff with the 1D Classic, and later, the MkIIN.

hi mitch.. i've been lurking around this thread and the MK4 thread. what kind of pricing would a used MK3 be in around? cuz on sunday night i saw a 1D3 sold on ebay for 1650 and i hesitated as i'm afraid of scammers... but is it around that price range?

Mine was a total of $1805, that includs shipping and that was about X-mass time. I bought it used from Adorama, and it only came with the body, strap and charger, and a new battery. None of the cables, no box or paperwork.

The price you saw might be good. The prices are coming down. Look at a few other places too, Adorama Used (external link) and KEH (external link) always have good deals. Adorama has two for sale right now at $1,949.00 (external link).

thanks mitch! wifey approved the 1D3 at $1.5K.. but i'm sure i can put the balance on a separate card.. haha...

now from adorama and KEH.. do they tell you what's the shutter count and what not?

and also, where can i go check to see if the serial # is part of the focus issue version? cuz i've seen some listed with yellow dot and some with blue dot on the retail box. what does that mean?

Never dealt with KEH, but Adorama will send you images of the camera and tell you the shutter count if you E-mail them. But I would shop around for a few weeks, and check both those places a couple times a day. The stock changes all the time and those prices are a bit high.

If the serial number on the bottom of the camera is between 501001 and 546561 (external link), it could be affected by the AF mirror adjustment problem, with the exception of cameras with the following serial numbers
(click here) which were manufactured with an updated mirror mechanism. (Additionally, all EOS-1D Mark III cameras with serial numbers higher than 546561 have been manufactured with the updated mirror mechanism.)

mitch, i'll keep my eyes out. cuz adorama only gives like 2-4% from bing. perhaps after bing expires then price may come down.

Yes; drop me an email and I can get you the shutter count (provided we have the software) as well as pictures of the unit.

It was three long years ago that I first announced to my mother that I wanted a Canon EOS 1DMkIII. At the time I shot with a Nikon D70.

Well, three years and a Nikon D300, Canon 7D and Canon 1DMkIIn later i'm officially the new owner of a Canon EOS 1DMkIII...

Bought it this afternoon and sold my MkIIn in the same hour. Cost me $700 to upgrade. Absolutely stoked.

Isn't trading up fun? In 4 years, I have owned every EOS body there is, except for the 10D, 20D, 50D and now the MkIV. I started with the first one, the D30. :)

It's my understanding that only Canon can produce the shutter count for the 1D3s? I ask for my shutter count when I sent in for repairs.

Trade negotiations complete. I'll be joining the 1DMK3 family very soon. :D
