Nice shots. That's some big flying transport tube.

Very interesting captures. I shot one of these beasts at my local airport (EGNM) a few months ago and it certainly was a tremendous sight to see her on our relatively short runway.

Just two things... The first ones are quite dramatically oversharpened. You might want to try reducing the radius a little and using a lower amount if you're using USM. A radius of 0.6 generally works well with images straight from the camera and around 0.3 if sharpening a re-sized image.

Second, for cockpit shots try using manual, metering your exposure for the windows and then using fill flash (ideally an external gun fired at the ceiling with a diffuser) to light the rest of the cockpit. That will give you a more even, detailed and balanced exposure like this C-47 cockpit, taken after a flight last year:

Thanks for sharing. It's always good to see C-17's! :)

Thanks Jeff and Randy!

Paul - I've never tried USM, although many speak highly of it. Thinking I'll give it a whirl with some photos from this weekends airshow! Thanks! Also, thanks for the cockpit shot suggestion - I was actually shooting a point and shoot at the time but now that I have the SLR I should get some pretty decent interior shots based on your advice! And I agree - it's always a good time when you get to see the C-17! :)

Thanks to all who have taken the time to help me grow in my abilities, it is most appreciated!

I really enjoyed seeing the photos of the C-17. Hopefully I am not out of line but what do you think of this watermark?

It's nice, but I prefer to leave the wings with those who represent the USAF. :)

I've got a couple that I'm considering, you'll see examples of them on Monday or Tuesday when I put up photos from the show I'm seeing this weekend. :)

Cheers!
