i was just testing out shots in both modes. do you think that could be a cause?
Probably. Try it on mode 1 unless you are panning.

Jul 29, 2010 18:26 | #890 I asked the very same question and a user on the site here was kind enough to test out the performance of the 70-200mm f2.8 IS L and a 2*TC against the 100-400mm L. Both on a 1D (the first test images) and on a 300D (found later on in the thread - afew pages in) ![]() Link to fullsize: http://farm5.static.flickr.com …77757310_4d9a7400c5_o.jpg ![]() Taken with Canon 400D, Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS L M2 and 580EX2 f6.3, ISO 400, 1/200sec at 200mm Note no editing was done to this shot save for RAW processing, where only white balance and minor brightness/exposure adjustments were made Tools of the trade: Canon 400D, Canon 7D, Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS L M2, Sigma 120-300mm f2.8 OS, Canon MPE 65mm f2.8 macro, Sigma 150mm f2.8 macro, Tamron 24-70mm f2.4, Sigma 70mm f2.8 macro, Sigma 8-16mm f4.5-5.6, Raynox DCR 250, loads of teleconverters and a flashy thingy too

Jul 29, 2010 18:59 | #891 MMakoto wrote in post #10615277 ![]() was doing a little testing on this lens after reading about the "de-centered issue", shot at 200mm, tripod, 1/100 (2sec timer), f2.8, iso100, live view, IS off, evaluative metering; shot in raw and converted straight to jpeg. this picture seems pretty sharp at 100% crop, but when i shot handheld at the the same settings, minus the live view, tripod and self timer and IS switched onto mode 2-the picture isn't as sharp. anybody could tell me what i am doing wrong here? i'm pretty new to photography, so any advice or comments are welcomed. btw, this was with a 5D II. TIA. IS mode 2 counters blur only in one angle and is really used for panning shots rather than totally static tripod shots. I do seem to recall reading that the V2 and the original 70-200mm had IS that detected tripod stabilty, yet I've never got sharp shots when IS is on - so I always turn it off (unless panning then you use mode 2) Tools of the trade: Canon 400D, Canon 7D, Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS L M2, Sigma 120-300mm f2.8 OS, Canon MPE 65mm f2.8 macro, Sigma 150mm f2.8 macro, Tamron 24-70mm f2.4, Sigma 70mm f2.8 macro, Sigma 8-16mm f4.5-5.6, Raynox DCR 250, loads of teleconverters and a flashy thingy too

I am falling in love with it. I have EOS 500D camera, I know its compatable with this lens. the question, is it going to give me the same razor sharp image quality pictures as the one's posted on this forum? considering most of the pictures taken with advanced EOS 1ii, EOS 5D, EOS 50D and so forth. Thanks all, 4 posts, 4 same exact posts in 4 different threads....wtf mate? -Brandon-

One thing I really like, aside from sharpness, versatility, AF, etc, is the rendering from the lens is just beautiful. A lot of Canon's lenses have a slightly clinical look to them...this lens has sharpness and beauty. Here's another with a 2x TC. This is at 342mm, f/5.6, ISO 1600 and 1/100 sec. ![]() That looks superb.
