You know that might just like be a standard form reply email. It can still help to actually speak to someone.

It's not a standard reply - unless this problem is SOOooo common they have a standard reply asking me for CDs of my RAW files, to notify them that this is an intermittent problem and make comments on the example photo's I uploaded to Flickr :)

bw!

I drop my stuff there including a MKIII I bought off a member on another forum that sent it off and returned from Irvine saying it had nothing wrong with it under the recall. Sent it to Jamesburg and they replaced the mirror box, precharge assembly and a few other parts, cleaned it, calibrated it and called me to let me know it was ready. Dropped it off one morning and picked it up the next afternoon but I have CPS gold so I get prioity.

No CPS here - I'm not that pro :)

My experience with the Irvine repair center has been terrible so far.

1. I sent my 70-200 for being soft on the left side of the image. They fixed that but caused other problems. I had to send it in again 2 more times until they fixed it.

2. My 1st 7D had focus problems. Sent it in 4 times and still wasn't any better. I had to get the people at Canon headquarter involved to replace it.

3. 17-55 was soft. Had to send it in 2 times until it was fixed.

So I am leery about sending anymore things to the Irvine center although I live in CA. If I need repairs in the future I will probably try the Jamesburg NJ center.

Larry from NJ Customer Service emailed me several throughout the day/nite regarding my problem, that even though it was out of warranty, Canon would still fix it for free. (customer service?). BTW, my 5D came back fixed/cleaned/etc., better than ever. Shot 100+ RAW shots yesterday. No problem. Kudos to NJ Canon Customer service..

Happily, I'm much closer to NJ than CA, it'll be going there. I just need to find a window where I can be without it!

I emailed them to find out whether mirror recall has done to my 5D classic, they replied to me, but never really answered my question, I will probably bring it to Canon service in person

I still haven't sent the 7D off - I suddenly got a ton of requests for shoots, and I'm not comfortable doing them with my XTI at this stage.

They also asked for RAW copies of the corrupt files, and I didn't have any (I deleted them, they were no use to me) - so I've been waiting for it to happen again - last night during a self portrait shoot, I got one. This time I did some playing - Aperture and file copies both bomb when they come across this bad file. OSX renders the thumbnail and preview for the file correctly - but once opened in Preview (the app) or any editor (Aperture or Picasa tested) the corruption shows through.

I'll send it in after this next big shoot, I think ... hope the turn around time is quick!

7D is in a Fedex truck to NJ, should be there tomorrow. I'll update with the results when I hear from them!

I ended up finding 6 RAW files I hadn't deleted and burned them to CD and shipped it with them.

Got the camera back tonight (had to drive 45 minutes to the Fedex depo - dammit) - everything seems to be working.

Canon indicated they replaced the main PCB assembly and front cover assembly, adjusted the exposure and focus, gave the CMOS a clean and updated the firmware.

So far, so good. Very happy with Canon's service and response time (NJ repair center).

Thanks everyone for the assistance and guidance!

My experience with Canon NJ Service Center was great.

Took a broken lens to the Dealer on Monday, they checked it in and confirmed not working.
Tuesday they ship to Canon in NJ. Following Monday I get it back all repaired.

Never sent anything in to them directly, always went through the dealer where it was purchased.
