i was wondering if anyone has used this mic for any work and if so how you feel about it.

its the sennheiser MKE-400. i know sennheiser is a great company but was wondering what people thought about setting this up on my 7d.

suggestions are also welcome, i am new to actually buying my own equipment and normally have always worked on sets where all equipment was already available.

I have not used it myself, but I have heard only good things about it from people who have.

The MKE400 is great, better than the Rode rivals IMO. Youtube some test samples it's nice. I'm getting one as well, I've always had a good experience from Sennheiser equipment.
