Went shooting with some buddies and had a decent view of Mt. Hood. I'm going to go back up when my 17-40L comes in.

Two more from the same great shoot the other week......These are really taken at the same time, just with the camera spun round. Both use the Singh Ray 3stop reverse grad.

Thanks! It's about 2 hours to Timberline Lodge but I see it pretty much everyday along with St. Helens. I've yet to get some good close pics of either with my 5D2 yet but plan to go up in about 2 weeks.

Very nice shots Kristin. Is that Crater Lake? I've lived here 10 years now and have yet to check it out but heard it's amazing. I'm sure I'll make it up fot a shoot this fall/winter.

Our first sunset on Kauai last week - didn't take the big guns so this was captured with the S90... turned out to be the best sunset of the week there.

+1 That Milky Way shot is stunning! I'm assuming you used the 16-35L for that?

Thanks for the comments! The hardest part is finding a location with skies dark enough to see the Milky Way with the naked eye. The Miljy Way rises in the east and sets in the west like the sun and so I set up near a lake to try to get a reflection. Used my 16-35 at f/2.8 set for 30 seconds at 1600 ISO on a tripod with a cable release. Thats all there is to it. If you set your shutter for longer, you start to get star trails. I tried to set my ISO at 3200 and 15 seconds but didn't like the results as well---the pictures had more of a yellow cast which is not what my eyes saw. Here's an example:
