1DIV vs 5DII

I love 5d2 - love the files and what you can do to em in post... But if 1ds3 is close in iq I'd go for it working professionally with a 5d2 would bug me I think as it reallly doesn't perform well with off centre focus points when in a hurry to get the shot. And shooting off centre is important and when going fast as focus recompose can miss shots so easily - ESP wedding where it's a look or an expression you want... Doesn't solve your video itch but it gives you rugged one series bodies that behave the same as your mk three... Hard choice

That might be a good idea. I'm just warry of buying a $5k used camera. Adorama has them refurbished for $5k on ebay. Same as their site. Would you feel comfortable buying it refurbished from Adorama (not the ebay store)

I bought mine used from a seller on this forums. They are durable cameras designed for around 300,000 shutters.

If you don't know the shutter counts, I would avoid buying it.

A used one on the forums goes for around $3800 to $4000.

For video itch, the 1DIV, but give up the full frame

In talking with my dad, I think he is loaning me some $$ to pick up some gear. Figure my budget is no more than $8k:

Nothing wrong with getting some new gear, but when you have the gear you have, going into hock for $8k doesn't make sense, unless he's the kind of dad that really doesn't make you pay him back.

Sounds like dad has money to burn.

Yeah i'm not sure what his plan is...i'll wait to find out before I make the final decision on what to get.

Right now the only real issue for me is going between a new 1DIV and refurbished 1DsIII.

The new 1DsIII is only $1100 more than the 1DIV so I could do that and the 135L and 15mm fisheye for now if I don't feel comfortable buying one used. I did purchase my 1D3 used from a guy in NY and it has been my main body since and a pleasure to shoot. I can worry about purchasing more flashes later.

If i were you, i would sell:
-- 50D then upgrade to 5DII+grip.
-- current 70-200 & buy Mark II version (it's a highly recommended lens right now).
-- 430EXII for 580EX II.
And buy 50 1.4 & more CFs.

So my dad, being amazing as he is, gave me some cash free and clear to continue to pursue photography. It was a tough decision, but after shooting a 1D series I couldn't drop back to a 5D right now.

Nice choice, I have both 1dmk4 and 5dmk2 and shoot all kinds of subjects and if one had to go I would not need to think about it, the 5d would be shifted.I just love the mk4.
