I'm 'lichen' this contest!

Growin' on the tree right outside my door.

Canon 50D, Canon EF 100mm f2.8 macro at minimum focus, 50mm extension tubes, Yongnuo YN-468 flash, OCF cable, 'butter tub' diffuser.
Manual mode - ISO 100, 1/250, f11, +2/3 FEC.

Cropped, just a bit, from the original - some PP, but not much.

The beginner clicks the shutter and says "Let's see what I got." ... The experienced photographer thinks "How can I capture what I see?"

Great choice, congrats Fr4nk! John and GJim, your images are excellent as well, wtg! The captures I took for this challenge of a moldy/mossy log were unimpressive, and I did not want to stink-up the comp with what I considered a sub-par submission. Lester, your challenge theme was great.
