These are great! I forgot the US Open was going on this week and I made the mistake of going to Newport Beach from Huntington, via PCH. Traffic was nuts!!!! Great shots.

I was just there today. Didn't get any shots of the ladies surfing, but it does get very crowded on the pier. Maybe I need to suck it up and get a 400 and shoot from the beach. You have some great shots in there.

#3 is your best shot. would've liked to see her more centered in frame, but nice peak action shot nonetheless.

thanks for sharing!

Centering subjects makes a weak/poor composition.

 i would have to kindly disagree. as the great Aaron Chang once said, always center your subject in action shots unless you have an interesting foreground/background to offset.

also, if you're using center point focus (which 99.99% of surf shooters do), you sacrifice sharpness of subject if trying to abide by the rule of thirds (unless you've center-focused subject and cropped.....)

just the little i've learned over the years, but to each their own.
please keep posting new works, we need more surf shots here on the forums!! :D:D:D

After 200ft the DOF is huge, specially @ f/5.6 even at 1280mm is about 4ft total ...:)

These are right on the rule of thirds!

They make you "see" the surfer first then the rest of the image. It is so powerful that the out focus objects (fence, rocks) at the start of the frame are/is not in the game.

#2 is my favorite. I think it is the best at showing the intensity of surfing.
